NECHA South/East All Stars dominate over NECHA North/West selects 12-5.The 5th Annual NECHA All-Star weekend was action packed and full of scoring as the league once again showcased it's finest players. This year's event held Saturday March27th and Sunday, March 28th at the Danbury Arena in Danbury Connecticut.
The Weekend started out with a skills competition in which:
Derek Luther of Bryant Univ. sprinted to the fastest skater award circling the rink in 16.21 seconds. Owen Reinders of Keene St. blasted the hardest shot contest at 88 mph. Mike Hauch of Daniel Webster snipered the most accurate shot award going 5 for 8 and 6 for 8 in each round. Adam Roof of Univ of Vermont showed his moves in the Shoot out contest while Alex Kramer of Boston College earned Best Goalie award.
On Sunday, The South/East team came to play and dominated the scoring 12-5. The South/East team took a two goal lead in the first period. Spencer McFarland of Coast Guard opening the scoring at the 5:45 minute mark and Grant Zyskowski of Tufts lighting the lamp with just .31 seconds left in the first period. The South/East continued to build it's lead by scoring 4 more times (Colin Neugold of WCSU; Mark Brenckle of Tufts; Steve Sypek and Derek Summerlin of BC) in the second period before Matt Gould of Keene St. broke the drought for the North/West team. Bryant's Andrew Sinibaldi found the twine at 3:43 in the second period giving the South/East team their six goal lead back before North/West's Adam Roof of UVM sunk a penalty shot at 3:24 to help the North/West.
UConn's Tyler Slomkowski opened up the third for the North/West team but Cam Chaput of Bates College stormed right back to keep them at bay. Alec Goolsby of Univ. of Mass scored for another North/West team tally before Chris McNamara of BC, and Andrew Carlson of Northeastern Univ., Ryan Demadis of UConn and Bates Wes Chaput closed out the games scoring.
